H.E. Pavel Filip
Mr. Pavel Filip is the Prime Minister of Moldova. Before becoming the 12th Prime Minister of democratic Moldova in January 2016, he served as Minister for Information Technology and Communications in four consecutive Ministerial Cabinets. A passionate supporter of Moldova's integration into the European Union, Mr. Filip has embraced a pragmatic, result-driven approach in government and, as Prime Minister, has launched comprehensive and structural reforms aimed at modernizing and developing the Eastern European country.
Pavel Filip has first-hand experience in the business sector. For more than 20 years, he held management responsibilities in key Moldovan companies. Between 1991 and 2008, he worked for "Bucuria" JSC, first as Chief Engineer and Deputy General Director for production and technology issues and, since 2001, as General Director. In 2008, he became General Director of „Tutun-CTC" JSC (Chisinau), a position he kept until being appointed Cabinet Minister in 2011. Between 2009 and 2010, Mr. Filip served as Member of the Council in Moldova's National Confederation of Employers, a responsibility which offered him the opportunity to contribute to better business regulations and practices.
Since 2010, Pavel Filip has been a member of the Democratic Party of Republic of Moldova (DPM). Currently, he is First Vice-president of the party and Chairman of PDM's Chisinau Municipal Organization.
Mr. Filip is a mechanical engineer by training, having graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Moldova in 1990. He also holds a post-graduate diploma in international management issued by International Management Institute (Chisinau).
Pavel Filip was awarded with the Medal of the International Telecommunications Union, for his contribution to the development of information society (2013) and with the "Gloria Muncii" Order for special merits in ensuring the negotiation, signing and ratification of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, as well as the contribution to the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU Member States, conferred by the President of the Republic of Moldova (2014).
He speaks natively Romanian and speaks well English and Russian. Mr. Filip is married and has two children.
